The Buddytruk Top 8: Buddytruk stirs up controversy, iOS 9 leaks, and more!

Hello ladies and gents! Welcome to another week of the Buddytruk Top 8! This was a fun week as the beautiful summer season is finally rolling through! The sun is shinning. Birds are chirping. People are smiling. There is much to discuss in today’s weekly roundup. So, let’s dive into things shall we?!

1. Did Buddytruk just become controversial in Austin?

Buddytruk has been welcomed with open arms by the Austin, Texas community. But, that doesn’t come without its hiccups. It seems that Buddytruk has caused a bit of controversy with the Texas DMV. This of course is according to some publications and a “competitor” who shall remain nameless. Truth be told, any company that gets introduced to a new city has to undergo certain guidelines and protocols. Austin is no different. It’s just another step a company needs to take when being introduced to a new city.

The only reason why I even mentioned this was because I’ve seen some misinformation out there. Yes, we are operating within the regulations and laws of the city. Yes, we are sending information to proper channels. No, we’re not in any competition with anyone. There is plenty of room for innovative on-demand apps to do well so that isn’t even a thing. Keep in mind Uber and Lyft are direct competitors. They’re both doing fine. No, no one asked me to write this. Buddytruk, Inc. created this blog to provide you with helpful and interesting tips/information. But more importantly… transparency.

With that being said, this all just comes with the territory. Feel free to leave comments, ask questions, or even contact me on Twitter. I’d be happy to discuss this further but until then… as the one wise man said to the other, “Playa. Play on.”

2. Finals. Are. Over.

College students everywhere are rejoicing and going apes*^t because finals are over. Who can blame them?!?! Buddytruk is helping awesome college kids in our communities move out of dorms, get set up in new spots, and more! In fact, we have some special promo codes we’re giving away so, be sure to follow us on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram for more updates.

3. Dave Letterman’s Final Sendoff.

C’mon now! We can’t have a Top 8 without mentioning the final departure of late night TV host, David Letterman! Thanks for the fun times and memories through the years, Dave! We will miss you!

4. Did Spotify just get a lot cooler?

Earlier this week, Spotify announced that it will now be expanding to include podcasts, news radio and video streaming. The extra content comes from partners like Comedy Central, BBC and ESPN. Content will be available for both free and premium customers. So, basically Spotify just threw its hat into the ring with Netflix, Amazon, Hulu and (new contender) HBO. WOW. However ! Spotify did say it wanted to focus on music (we’ll see how long that lasts). I’d love to hear your thoughts on this. Is this a good thing or a bad thing? I did like the simplicity of Spotify vs it becoming like so many other platforms mentioned above.

5. 38 of the most requested Emojis might be coming to you sooner than you think!

You asked for emojis and now the powers that be are responding in kind. There are more new emojis coming. Unicode took into account which emojis were most requested on Emojipedia, searched on Google, requested from Apple and written about online. Now… it’s about to become a reality. Read more on Huff Post and see which emojis are the ones everyone is dying to have.

6. The 2015 Webby Awards!

Another year. Another awards season. Move over Billboard Awards! Hello… WEBBY AWARDS. The Webby Awards honors excellence on the Internet and this year’s winners will knock your socks off. Hosted by comedian, Hannibal Buress the event was fun to watch. Check out this year’s nominees and winners here. I always love checking out their list of honorees. It’s inspiring and always offers fresh insight into what people are really into these days.

7. Apple iOS 9 leaks & reveals major changes.

iOS 9 is coming! In fact we will get our first look at the new OS  in June when Apple holds its annual Worldwide Developers’ Conference (WWDC). iOS 9 comes with a whole new look/style and a new app called “Home“. Home will begin a major Apple push and act as a control hub for third party HomeKit products (like the roles of Game Center for games and Health for Healthkit apps). Check out what else is coming to the new update here.

8. Taylor Swift breaks the internet with debut of new music video.

Taylor Swift scorched the earth with her epic new music video that is still racking up views in the millions after debuting earlier this week. Taylor Swift’s “Bad Blood” music video features a long list of celeb cameos that only adds fuel to Taylor Swift’s growing empire. “Bad Blood” even became the new Vevo record holder, delivering 20.1 million views in 24 hours. Now… everyone bow down to Queen Swift of pop-town.

Alright readers, now it’s your turn! Has Buddytruk become controversial? Are you excited for the new iOS 9 update? Excited about Spotify’s new features? What. Say. You? Leave us some comments, have an amazing weekend and as always… see you next week! Same Buddytruk time. Same Buddytruk hour.
