BUDDYTRUK DRIVER: Brandon

LOCATION: Austin, TX.

BUDDYTRUK: What’s your favorite spot to hang out in Austin?

BRANDON: It’s not easy picking one place when Austin has so many awesome places to offer haha, but if I had to narrow it down, you can find me walking down SoCo, eating/drinking on Lamar or out in the sun in the town-lake/Zilker park area.

BUDDYTRUK: What made you want to become a Buddytruk Driver?

BRANDON: I saw an exciting opportunity to really make an impact on a young, up and coming company. After I started with Buddytruk though, that’s when I started figuring out why I love it. It doesn’t feel like just a job to me, not only does it pay well, but it’s fun, I pretty much work for myself and I love the relaxing time between transactions. I think the biggest deal for me is the corporate team. Brian is one awesome guy not to mention a truly human CEO, Billy’s emails bring me joy whether from casual talk or those lovely incentive receipts! Haha Tim is cool, CJ rocks, Ryan’s hair is nice and if I left anyone out its only because the bottom line is, the people at Buddytruk are great to me.

BUDDYTRUK: In addition to being a Buddytruk Driver, what else do you do (favorite hobbies, career goals, interesting things about you)?

BRANDON: I have my own small one man business cutting cedar, it’s nothing special but it’s mine and it’s taught me a lot about business. I’m a social person, so I love hanging out with my lady and best friends in pretty much any setting. I write in my free time, especially while waiting for a transaction at a nearby Starbucks, just clicking away. Lift weights when I have time, want to do it as a hobby with results, not a chore. I’d like to really be involved in a start up one day from ground zero. Career goals, I hope I can just have a combination of something I feel happy doing and it brings in the right amount of money.

BUDDYTRUK: I heard you hit 20 transactions in one week?! What was that like?

BRANDON: That was a fun week, mainly because the majority of those 20 transactions was in like 1 day, I think a Friday. People are so happy when you help them and they know you are sincere about it. I feel like the fact that it’s not just a job to me, but a fun way to spend my day really reflects in the work I do, and I think the people I help love that.

BUDDYTRUK: Since you’re a Buddytruk Driver you get the opportunity to help a lot of people move. Do you have any awesome moving tips you can share?

BRANDON: When finishing up a transaction, always ask if there is anything at all that an extra pair of hands and a truck can help with. You’d be surprised how many times I’ve gone a little further, from moving an old couch out after the new one is in, to taking some boxes to the backyard shed. I’ve always received good sized tips doing this and usually results in repeat customers. Another little tip, remember that time you helped your own buddy move, try to replicate that sense of care, you’re already a stranger to them so the moving process of people’s things is already a little uncomfortable. Be a buddy, not that stranger who’s moving that ladies mattress. I promise the smiles and tips are bigger in the end. After all, this is Buddytruk!

BUDDYTRUK: What’s the funniest thing someone has had you move so far?

BRANDON:  I had a user, a stay at home mom with 3 little boys, somehow get talked into buying 3 big plastic children’s race car beds for each one of them. We did 3 different transactions with 3 different people in 3 completely different parts of town after she hunted down 2 red car beds and 1 blue one on Craigslist. I am now the master of putting together children’s race car beds complete with rims and trunks. As I was leaving, the boy who got the blue one started crying so hard. Apparently red was all their favorite colors and blue was a girls color.

BUDDYTRUK: Where can people find you on social media (social handle)?

BRANDON: I have Facebook, an Instagram, I am on LinkedIn, and Pinterest. Full name, Brandon Eric Thomas.

  1. Great story, and Brandon sounds like a great guy, er, Buddy. I like the BuddyTruk model and am interested, but I don’t own a truck or van. Any thoughts about a BuddyTruk Buddy using something like a Uhaul pickup/van rental to haul stuff for folks, like on a busy local garage-sale weekend? Cheers! -Rod
